Culture Park - Shenzhen

Project Info

!melk's design for the Culture Park introduces a world-class public park along Shenzhen's bayfront, which is integrated with an innovative museum for science and art.

Harmoniously responding to the architecture by means of a subtle, yet dynamic, topographic "reaction" to the seemingly kinetic building forms, !melk’s design creates a variety of "spaces and places" which function as settings for display and exhibition content.  The park ultimately serves as the museum's four-season "outdoor gallery", whereby all park areas are organized into a curated series of experiences.

Shenzhen has a hot, tropical climate, which means that a park - in addition to programmatic considerations - should offer a comfortable microclimate.  By exclusively using a palette of endemic tropical plants and a highly experiential site topography design, !melk established a sustainable and functional vision for the project from the outset.

One of the most prominent features of the park are the various opportunities for water features, including a central water plaza and landform water-walls, along with a one-of-a-kind water wall cascade tunnel.
